Baroque Always With Me Collection: Looks

Always With Me Close Ups

Confetti Candy, Smells Like Human Spirit, Bathhouse, Boiler Room / Dragon, Ocean Railway, Herbal Bath Soak, Give Me Sen

Yesterday I posted my swatches of Baroque Cosmetics’s Always With Me Collection. Today I’ve got five looks using these shadows that I’m really excited to share with you. For the most part the looks are on the soft and subtle side.

awm 1Look 1: Confetti Candy and Smells Like Human Spirit Always with me 2For this, I primed my lids and then applied Confetti Candy to the inner half with a flat brush. I flipped it over and used the other side to apply Smells Like Human Spirit to the outer half, up slightly past the crease at the outer corner and overlapping a little bit in the middle. I blended the two together to get a smooth transition. I lined my upper and lower lashlines with a lot of black pencil liner and smudged it out with a brush. I smudged it out past the end of my eye in the outer corners. I mixed a tiny bit of Smells Like Human Spirit with Superstar Serum and used it to line my lower waterline. I finished the look with mascara. (Lips are a blend of Kae Q Sapodilla and Fyrinnae Meloncholy, a combo I absolutely love.)

awm2Look 2: Ocean Railway and Herbal Bath Soak Always With Me 3I primed my lids and applied Pixie Epoxy over the top. After it set I patted Ocean Railway on top of the Pixie Epoxy, concentrating more color close to my lashes and stopping before I got all the way to the crease. I used a swiping motion to fill in near my crease with less intense color. Then I picked up a little bit of Herbal Bath Soak with a round blending brush and used it to blend out the upper edge along my crease. I lined my upper lashes with thick black liquid liner and added a dramatic wing at the end. I curled and mascaraed my lashes and finished the look with a tiny bit of Ocean Railway applied to my lower waterline with a liner brush. (Lips are Kae Q Guava.)

awm3Look 3: Bathhouse, Boiler Room and Confetti Candy Always With Me 1After applying primer, I patted Bathhouse all over my lids, focusing the color most intensely on the inner part. Then I applied Boiler Room at the outer corner and fanned it up and out. I blended it down and in over the red at the outer corner as well. Then I put a little bit of it on a round blending brush and worked it into the crease, concentrating on the outer part. I used a fluffy brush to highlight under my browbone with a teensy bit of Confetti Candy. I added dark brown winged liquid liner to my upper lashline and lined my lower lashline with a golden brown glittery pencil liner. Then I deepened the outer third of my lower lashline with dark brown pencil liner. I finished with mascara. (Lips are Shiro’s Red Wedding.)

awm4Look 4: Give Me Sen, Herbal Bath Soak, Dragon, Confetti Candy Always With Me 4First I applied Give me Sen to the inner third of my already-primed eyelids. I rubbed my brush on a tissue and then used the same brush to apply a vertical stripe of Herbal Bath Soak down the middle of each eyelid. I cleaned off my brush once more and use it to apply Dragon to the outer third. I used a blending brush to very lightly blur the lines between the colors. Then I picked up some Herbal Bath Soak with a blending brush and applied it above my crease and along my lower lashline. I blended out the top edge. Then I used a tiny bit of Confetti Candy as a brow highlight. I lined my upper and lower lashes with a little black pencil liner and ended with mascara.

awm5Look 5: Give Me Sen, Smells Like Human Spirit, Confetti Candy Always With Me 5I started by priming my lids. Then I swept Confetti Candy all over to give a sheer wash of shimmer. I mixed Give Me Sen with Superstar Serum to make a paste and then applied it as winged liner. I also applied some along my lower lashes and connected the bottom line to my wing and filled in the triangle they made. I took my tiniest brush and applied Smells Like Human Spirit as an inner corner highlight. Both my upper and lower lashes got a coat of mascara. (Lips are Shiro’s It’s Called Love, which is also Spirited Away themed.)

Always With Me LooksSo those are my five Always With Me looks. I had a ton of fun with this collection. I was really surprised by how much I liked Smells Like Human Spirit when used in actual looks. I think overall look number one was my favorite, and actually pretty different from my usual looks. If I’m ever in the mood for wham bam in your face blue sparkles though, look number 2 is where it’s at. What about you? Which look is your favorite?

FOTD: Sunshiney Look with Kae Q and Baroque

Sunshine bigBaroque and Kae Q, two of my favorite indie brands share an anniversary. Instead of competing with each other, they decided to team up and do a joint sale. Today and tomorrow you can get 20% off at either site with the code SUNSHINE. To kind of dorkily celebrate their anniversaries, I decided to do a sunshine themed look, using Baroque and Kae Q products.

Sunshine lookBoth shops carry yellow-orange products, and if you by one in a fullsize you get a coupon for the other shop that’s good for the next month (or so? I’m not quite sure). From Baroque, it’s their Kilmt Eastwood blush, which I used on both my eyes and cheeks in this look. From Kae Q it’s Carambola, a sheer lip color.

I primed my eyes like always and then I patted Klimt Eastwood, a yellow orange blush, all over my lids. I added Walking on Air, a peachy light orange, to the outer corner, blending it into the yellow and blowing it out a little. I used a liner brush to apply She Likes My SPARK, a shimmery copper orange, below my lower lashes. I used black liquid liner and winged it out for my upper lashline. I used a black pencil liner to lightly line my lower lashes. I actually forgot to apply mascara. Oops. Then I did my foundation/concealer/powder thing. I applied Mucha Ado About Nothing, a reddish rose, to my cheeks. I used a contour brush to apply Klimt Eastwood above it, kind of like a yellow highlighter on the tops of my cheeks, and blended it down to form a slight gradient. I finished off with Mamey, a muted salmon balm, which I applied with a doe foot applicator.

I’m really happy with how this turned out. It’s been grey here for weeks on end (it’s Southern Hemisphere winter, after all), so it was nice to do something cheery and warm.

This post is not in any way sponsored, although I did use a blogger discount on my order from Kae Q. I’m just genuinely a fan of both of these brands and wanted to share! Kae Q’s lip products are very creamy and easy to apply and surprisingly opaque for what’s marketed as a balm. (Although she has added some sheer balms to her summer lineup that I’m interested in trying as well.) And Baroque’s eyeshadow formula is a shimmery, easy to blend delight. Her colors can be a bit on the sheer side for some, but I like it because it makes me feel ethereal and glowy when I wear them.

Have you tried Baroque or Kae Q? Are you planning on picking anything up in either sale?

FOTD: Yellow Blush

yellow blush bigIn my order from Baroque, Andi included her yellow blush, Klimt Eastwood, as my free sample. Yellow blush is one of those things that I probably wouldn’t have bought on my own, but since I have it I wanted to try it out. And you know what? It’s not bad.

yellow blush lookI think it winds up looking like more of an apricot than a yellow once it’s on my face, so I paired it with some similar apricot eyeshadows.

Lips:

I started by priming my lids and then applied Amelie, a light shimmery peach to the mobile lid. I used an angled brush to place Summertime, a darker yellowish peach, in the outer portion of the crease and blended in down and in. I applied winged black liner on my upper lashline and black pencil liner on my lower lashline. I put a little more Summertime below my lower lashes as well. Then I curled them and applied mascara to both my upper and lower lashes. I did my foundation, concealer and powder like usual. I tapped some Klimt Eastwood, a yellow blush, out onto a piece of mirror and used my contour brush to pick some up, since it’s smaller and more precise than my blush brush. I applied it to my cheeks and blended it out with a clean blush brush. Then I lined around the outside of my lips with a skintoned pencil and blended it out with my finger. I used a lip brush to apply Recursion, a bright orangey red lip theory, to finish the look.

I was pleasantly surprised at how peachy Klimt Eastwood turned when applied. Even though it’s definitely a goldenrod yellow powder, the natural color of my cheeks shows through a little and makes it look more like a light orange. I like it. I could see myself using it again. If I wanted to make this look monochromatic, I’d swap out the Lip Theory for Shiro’s apricot Come Out, Come Out balm, which I think would match the blush perfectly.

Have you ever tried any unusual blush colors?

Hello Waffle Painted Flowers Collection: Looks

Painted Flowers Swatches

Mad as a March Hare, Animate Chess-Piece, Eat Me, Golden Afternoon, Pool of Tears, Gryphon, Deepest Fears / Locked Doors, Dormouse, Mad, Beneath Oxfordshire, Moonlit Grin, Rule 42, Hearts

Yesterday I posted my swatches of Hello Waffle‘s spring seasonal collection, Painted Flowers. Today I have the looks to share with you. This is one of my favorite collections, and I really like how easy it was to come up with looks using these shadows.

eat me shadowLook 1: Pool of Tears, Eat Me and Moonlit Grin

Pool of TearsI liked this look so much I actually put together a tutorial for it with pictures. But in brief, I primed my lids, applied Eat Me to the inner half and Pool of Tears to the outer half and blended them together. Then I used a narrow angled brush to apply Moonlit Grin in a C around the outer corner and blended that too. I finished with black winged liner and mascara.

rule 42 shadowsLook 2: Hearts, Deepest Fears, Rule 42, Dormouse

Deepest FearsFor this look, I primed my eyelids and applied Hearts to the inner third, Deepest Fears to the middle third and Rule 42 to the outer third. I blended them together and brought Rule 42 up into the crease. I blended out the upper edge with Dormouse. Then I smudged some Hearts into both my upper and lower lashlines. I applied Rule 42 to my lower lashline as well, closer in to the lashes. I lined my upper lashes and lower waterline with black pencil liner, smudged it out and finished with mascara.

mad shadowaLook 3: Golden Afternoon, Mad, Animate Chess-Piece, Beneath OxfordshireGolden Afternoon

First, I patted Golden Afternoon onto my already primed lids. Then I applied Mad in the outer corner/crease and blended the two together. I used a little Animate Chess-Piece to as a transition color to soften the upper edge. Then I mixed Beneath Oxfordshire with Superstar Serum and applied it as liner, thickly on the upper lashes and lightly on the bottom.

dormouse shadowLook 4: Locked Doors, Mad as a March Hare, Dormouse

Locked Doors

For this look, I primed my eyes and applied Locked Doors all over my lids and along my lower lashline. I placed Mad as a March Hare in my crease and blended them together. I applied Dormouse above the darker shadows and blended it up to my eyebrows. I finished with smudgy dark brown liner and mascara.

gryphon shadowLook 5: Gryphon, Eat Me, Rule 42, Dormouse

GryphonI decided to try a new technique for halo eyes with this look. I started by applying Dormouse to my crease as a transition color and blended it out quite a bit so it wasn’t too sparkly. Then I applied Gryphon to the inner and outer thirds of each eye, leaving the middle of my lid empty. I used a pencil brush to apply Rule 42 to the very inner and outer portion of each eye and to the inner and outer thirds of my lower lashline as well. I filled in the middle section with Gryphon. Then I patted Eat Me into the blank space in the center of my lid and carefully blended the three colors together, making sure not to darken the white. I lined my eyes with a metallic dark grey pencil, curled my lashes and put on mascara.

Painted Flowers Looks

So those are my Painted Flowers looks. I like that they’re a mix of colorful fun looks and dark and moody looks. My favorite is the first one, just because of my deep and abiding love for turquoise shadow and winged liner. It’s tutorial will be up tomorrow if you want to try it for yourself! But I’m also really happy with looks 4 and 5. I’m usually not a huge fan of browns, but really liked how they came together in look 4 and I feel like look 5 is the most successful halo eye I’ve ever done. What about you? Which look is your favorite?

FOTD: Sparkly Rainbow Eyeshadow

HW RainbowWhen I was working on my 1000 Likes looks, it occurred to me that since there were only seven colors, I could probably find a way to use all seven of them at once. Which I did. Since the collection’s pretty much a sparkly golden rainbow, that’s exactly what the look using all of the colors wound up looking like!

Rainbow 1I feel like I should be on my way to a pride parade.

I primed my lids, as always. Then I made my rainbow, working from the inner corners to the outer corners. I started with just a little bit of Enabling, a coppery orange, at the inner corners, followed by 1000 Likes, a yellow gold, for the rest of the inner half of my lids. Next I placed Empty Wallets, an olive green, in a curved line outside of the gold. I used IMAM, a navy, for the outer corner of the lid. After that I placed One of Us!, a sparkly plum, above the navy, on the outer part of the crease. The upper line of all of these colors was super jagged and uneven and I used a clean blending brush in a windshield wiper motion to even it out. Once it wasn’t so harsh, I used 23, a pinky rose gold, to blend out the upper edge and highlight under my browbone. I applied Heavy Breathing Cat, a silver with a bit of gold sparkle, along my lower lashes. I lined my upper lashes with a thick line of black liquid liner, ending with a dramatic wing. I curled my lashes and applied mascara. I did my usual foundation, concealer and powder and finished the look with a peachy blush and a bright red-pink tinted balm.

I love this! I wasn’t sure it would come together, but it really did. The liner did so much to make it look cohesive and intentional. Plus, it’s just so much sparkly rainbow fun! How could I not love it? Since there isn’t any actual red shadow in this collection, I added it to my lips, which I think worked nicely. Have you ever felt the need to put an entire collection of eyeshadows on your face at once? How’d it turn out?

FOTD: Hufflepuff Yellow and Black

DSCN4767And now for Hufflepuff. The “we don’t really know what defines you, so no metallics for you” house. This youtube video pretty much sums it up. And also is hilarious. Anyways, basic black and yellow for the Hufflepuffs. Nice and simple.

HufflepuffI really like the way the yellow brings out the blue of my eyes. Plus it makes me feel super cheery and smiley (although that might also have been caused by thinking “I can’t digest lactose. I’m a Hufflepuff!” Seriously, go watch the video).

Lips:

I started by priming my eyes and patting Dandelion, a bright yellow, all over my lid. Next I took Cornucopia, a goldenrod yellow, and applied it to the outer part of my crease using an angled brush. To keep it Hufflepuff, try to use something that’s not too metallic/gold. You want to read yellow. Then I drew a winged line on my upper lashes. I used a liner brush to apply Bloody Awful Poet, a matte black to my lower lashline. Then I added mascara, but it didn’t look finished, so I used my angled brush to apply some Cornucopia underneath the wing and the outer corner of the lower lashline. I did my face make up as usual, with peachy pink blush and corally pink tinted balm.

I liked this more than I thought I would. The yellow is bright and cheery and looks great with blue eyes, and I always love a clean winged liner. The simplicity seems very Hufflepuff-appropriate. I really liked the way Bloody Awful Poet worked on the lower lashline. I might have to start using shadow instead of liner on my lower lashes more often.

FOTD: Lemon Lime Eyeshadow

DSCN2172I built this look around Debussy, a light golden green from Hello Waffle’s Musicians collection (which is the next review I’ll be putting up later this week). When I put it on, I wasn’t quite sure what to pair it with, but I wound up grabbing a yellow and a green, to make a bright, citrusy look. Lemon Lime Once again, this look is quite bold on it’s own, but very wearable with glasses.

  • Laura Mercier Secret Concealer in 1
  • Shiro Fatality Finishing Powder

  • MAC See Sheer

I started with primer, like usual and then patted Debussy, a light green with a golden sheen, all over my lids. I added Golden Afternoon, a bright yellow with gold sparkle, on the inner third of my lid, and around to the inner third of my lower lashline. Then I added Shiro’s That’ssss a Nice House, a bright grass green, to the outer part of my crease. That was just too bright, so I applied Envy, a much darker green, over the top and blended it down toward my outer corner. I added my usual winged liner, but forgot mascara. (Oops!) My face products were the same as usual, but I wanted a bright blush and lipstick to balance out the eyes, so I went with bright coral. I blended Gelato Beach blush onto my cheeks, concentrating on the upper/outer corners of my cheeks. (Do cheeks even have corners?) I finished off with See Sheer lipstick.

I felt so bright and citrusy! I loved it. And then the Wisconsinite in me realized I had totally just made Packers make up. Womp womp.

Shiro Tributes Collection: Looks

Tributes Close Ups

Unforgettable, Girl on Fire, Baker’s Boy, Remake, Beyond the Fence, Star-Crossed / Wildflowers, Ever in Your Favor, Mockingjay, Cornucopia, Huntress, Rebellion

In my previous post, I swatched Shiro’s Tributes Collection, which is based on the Hunger Games. Now I want to share some looks I’ve done using this collection. There are so many blogs out there that have amazing swatch pictures, but I always want to know people actually use their collections and what the shadows look like on real people’s faces. So here are 4 looks I’ve done using only these shadows. (Including one with a day to night variation!)

DSCN2451Tributes Look 1: Unforgettable, Girl on Fire, Cornucopia and Remake

Tributes look 1Unforgettable on the lid, Girl on Fire in the crease, Cornucopia blended up to the brow and Remake in the inner corner. I also put Unforgettable on the outer third of the lower lashline, Girl on Fire on the middle third and Cornucopia on the inner third, with a bit of Remake on top. I lined my eyes with black liner, and smudged it, going slightly upwards at the outer corner and applied mascara to finish it off.

DSCN2747Tributes Look 2: Huntress and Rebellion

Tributes look 2For this, I patted Huntress all over the lid. With a fluffy, tapered brush I placed Rebellion in the crease, concentrating the color at the outer corner and angling it down towards the eye, being careful not to make it too dark. Then I mixed Rebellion with Superstar Serum, and applied it as a winged liner. Curled lashes and mascara and done! I love this look. I’ve worn it multiple times and I always feel gorgeous when I do. I think the same basic approach would work with one of the golds on the lid and Star-Crossed as liner as well, but I haven’t tried it yet.

DSCN2888Tributes Look 3: Baker’s Boy and Wildflowers, with Mockingjay and Ever in Your Favor added for a night look

Tributes 3 DayBonus day to night look! For the day look, I applied Baker’s Boy lightly to primed lids, then put Wildflowers in the crease. I used dark brown liquid eyeliner to make a tiny little wedge-shaped wing, and applied mascara. I love this look. So soft and easy to wear. Another one I’ve worn multiple times. These colors are just perfect for my coloring.

Tributes 3 Night 2To change it into the night look, I darkened the outer corner with Ever in Your Favor and used a small brush to apply some under the lower lashes as well, sticking to the outer 2/3 of the eye. Then I put Mockingjay along my lower waterline. I put some in my inner corner and very carefully traced a line just above my liner on the inner 3/4 of my eye, stopping before I got to the wing. And I added bright magenta pink lipstick!

DSCN2962Tributes Look 4: Beyond the Fence, Star-Crossed, Baker’s Boy, Remake

Tributes 4 2For this, I primed my entire eye area, including underneath, then patted Beyond the Fence all over my lids, flaring it up at the corners (because that’s what’s most flattering with my eye shape), and underneath my lower lashes, making sure to connect the outer corners. I lined my eyes heavily with black pencil liner and used a brush to smudge it onto my mobile lid and along my lower lashes. Then I patted Star-Crossed over the top of the liner. I applied a thin line of Pixie Epoxy along my upper lashes and put more Star-Crossed on top. I blended out the edges using Baker’s Boy (a matte shadow that matches your skin tone would also be great to use for this, but I was sticking to the colelction), and added a tiny dot of Remake in my tear ducts to brighten things up. Then I curled my lashes, added lots of and blended out the edges with a clean blending brush one last time.

5 tirbutes looks 2So there you have it! 4 very different looks using only shadows from Shiro’s Tributes Collection.  Which one’s your favorite? Personally, I like the third look the best. It’s so simple and pretty and the type of thing I can wear all the time. I might need to get myself full sizes of Baker’s Boy and Wildflowers so I don’t run out!
